"I'm thinking of getting reinstated just so I can get my family back."
by Julia Orwell inthis was just said to me by a friend who was disfellowshipped just over 2 years ago.
she just had a miscarriage, and her partner dumped her rather than supported her through this process.
she told her jw parents, and they refuse to even call her or offer her any emotional support.

This was just said to me by a friend who was disfellowshipped just over 2 years ago. She just had a miscarriage, and her partner dumped her rather than supported her through this process. She told her JW parents, and they refuse to even call her or offer her any emotional support. I mean, she just friggin' lost her baby!!!
I know she won't really go through the reinstatement process as she's like KateWild and speaks up, and the elders don't easily reinstate someone like that. Oh and she's a single mother too... It goes to show though just how badly you need your family when tragedy strikes, and how this cult rips them away from you. I mean, her baby died! That's the worst thing that can happen to most women.

Strangest Local Needs?!?!?!?!
by thepackage inwhat was the starngest local needs topic you ever heard???
?
-
Julia Orwell
" Anyway, at the next Service Meeting, a local needs talk was given discussing the situation, and the elders decreed that we should not take our children outside to discipline them anymore; instead we were to take them into the library and give them their whippings in there!!"
We had a similar talk at our hall. The neighbours must have been getting upset. Also, we had one about how we needed to be quiet in the carpark after the night meetings because the neighbours had been complaining to the council about us carrying on at 10 o clock at night. I was one of the raucous laughers!!!
At another hall we had one about how sisters shouldn't wear stuff that shows the shoulder, because the shoulders are near the breasts, and if a man sees a woman's shoulders he begins thinking about her boobs...funny thing was, his wife had huge boobs and you could often see her nipples through her shirt. Don't get excited though guys, she was fat, dumpy and gross.
Always about how we women are responsible for what men think about.

Do poor educational areas yield more JW's??
by quellycatface inhi guys.
hope you all had a good christmas and a peaceful time with your loved ones.. the reason i ask this question is, i have lived in many areas due to work committments.. i find in the areas which have lower standards of schools, have more congregations.
yet, in more affluent and better school areas, there are fewer kh's.. i hate to stereotype but are the borg aware of this and turn it into their advantage?.

I don't know if it's deliberately turned to their advantage, but I have noticed higher income areas yield fewer jws, even if they're more densely populated. I don't know if there's causality here as my city is a city mostly populated by people who move here as opposed to people born here. Most people who live in my city have moved from interstate or overseas, including jws. It could he that because jws are poorer they settle in poorer areas where the cost of living is cheaper.
It is easier also to find a lot of poorer people at home while witnessing, such as people in housing commission, unemployed and parents with young children. Our territory had from public housing and homeless shelters to some of the most expensive homes in the country. The ones in the high class places were almost impossible to get home, or were only there part of the year. They live in mansions with high walls and intercoms so when, on the odd rare occasion we got someone home via the intercom, they weren't interested. It was far easier to get people home and actually talk face to face in the housing and lower income areas. We used to have a saying that applied to those in waterfront mansions or massive acreage properties with rainforest gardens and sea views: " they don't need our message because they already have their paradise." Traditionally it is the poor and downtrodden who take the opiate of religion, not those who live comfortable.

Did you ever run into brothers who didn't like "straightforward" talks?
by toto555 inso you brother who use to give talks (especially public talks) did you ever run into those brothers that always wanted you to speak "diplomatically" and "show love" all the time even though when you gave a talk and discussed certain points in a honest and straightforward way there was nothing wrong with what you did?
some people just don't like to hear the truth and even want you to "water things down" so that you "tickle" people's ears.
did you ever run into that?.

We had a substitute CO once get up and tell our congregation it was rotten to the core and everyone was shocked. He told the absolute truth about that congregation, and half of us were glad he said it plainly and the other half...well I suppose as the bitches, gossipers, manipulators and slanderers they may have been stunned to be called on their crap. I always appreciated a jw who called a spade a spade because we were rare.

Could have been any of the non Christian religions. You'd get a similar reaction if you went to the door of a Muslim.

I find I am Shunning my family !
by Phizzy inalthough i really hate the wt/jw shunning policy, which especially huts those who have been df'd, i find i am in a kind of way doing it to my jw family.. i do not include them in anything i do, in my own family gatherings, and i cannot be arsed to inform them of things going on in my family, or to even go and see them, unless really necessary.. this all adds up to a kind of "reverse shunning", and i do feel a twinge of guilt about it, but it is simply how things have become.. do you, fellow faders, find a similar thing happening ?.
-
Julia Orwell
Is it deliberate shunning or simply a growing apart of people who no longer have much in common? I no longer call old jw friends simply because I no longer have anything in common with them. And their cult speak annoys me.

Hubby went out in service today.
by KariOtt ini can't believe hubby and sis in law actually went out in service today.
when he left this morrning i reminded him to inform those who didn't slam their doors on them that if they join your cult that this will be the last christmas, holiday and birthday they will be allowed to celebrate.
i thought it very inapproiate going out today to knock on doors trying to get converts..

Even when I really believed, going out on Christmas and Thanksgiving just seemed ultra disrespectful- SFPW
Exactly! I likened it to someone coming to the Memorial and trying to proselytise. How would JWs have reacted?

The thing that really jumped out at me about this is the marginalisation of most countries in the world. This internet-only release for jws privileges those jws in developed countries only, ones with internet. I wonder how jws in poor countries of south America, Africa and Asia feel at being left out like this. If I were them, I'd feel that the wt was promoting elitism. For years the wt had electronic resources available but always made hard copies to be fair to ones with no computer access. Now, only jws with a certain standard of living are able to access the new stuff. How would you feel if you were told, "sorry, you're poor so you don't get the new stuff yet." Talk about discrimination! It's blatant discrimination against all those faithful drudges living in bamboo or adobe huts in rural Asia, India, Africa and the central- South Americas.
